How many glasses in a bottle of wine or champagne?
A standard 750 ml bottle of wine pours 5 glasses at a 5 oz pour. A bottle of champagne pours about 6 flutes at 4 oz, or 8 toasts at 3 oz.
Plan the whole bar
Glasses per bottle
| Pour | 750 ml bottle | 1.5 L magnum |
|---|---|---|
| Wine, standard 5 oz pour | 5 | 10 |
| Wine, generous 6 oz pour | 4 | 8 |
| Champagne, full flute 4 oz | 6 | 12 |
| Champagne, toast 3 oz | 8 | 16 |
| Champagne, sip 2 oz | 12 | 25 |
Whole glasses only. A 750 ml bottle holds 25.4 oz, so a little is left over at most pour sizes.
Why 5 oz?
Five ounces is the standard US restaurant pour and the size of one US standard drink of wine (about 12% alcohol). At home people pour bigger: a 6 oz pour gets you 4 glasses, so plan on fewer glasses per bottle for a relaxed crowd.
Planning a party?
- For a party, plan about 2 glasses per wine drinker for the first hour and 1 per hour after.
- For 100 guests at a 4-hour reception, that's about 33 bottles of wine with a full bar and signature cocktail, or 52 if you serve only beer and wine. The wedding bar calculator works out the exact split.
- Sparkling poured all night counts as wine. The toast is separate: see champagne for a toast.
